In a moment when the noise of the world feels louder than ever, two songs have been stripped back to the bone—and they hit harder for it. Singer-songwriter Joe Rosati has just released live acoustic versions of “Freedom Now” and “To Unite,” and the result is something rarer than polish: presence.

Rosati writes acoustic-based, soulful music shaped by the 1960s, ’70s, and ’80s—echoes of Leonard Cohen’s gravity, Lou Reed’s plainspoken edge, the Cure’s atmosphere, and the sweep of Led Zeppelin. A graduate of Western Washington University with a background in psychology and outdoor education, he has also scored the soundtrack for the indie film *A Perfect Life*, run nightclubs, produced film, and co-founded the TruthStream podcast. His lyrics stay close to the human condition: possibility, fracture, and the stubborn hope that people can still choose better.

“Freedom Now” first arrived in 2021 on Sound Alive Records, written in Tacoma—the city a friend once called the Liverpool of the USA. Rosati has described it as a song for children, for digital warriors digging through misinformation, and for anyone trying to pull truth from darkness into light. Lines such as “We just want our freedom now” and “Raise your minds, join the fight / unveil the truth from darkness to light” carry the refrain “Where We Go One We Go All.” The 2026 live acoustic take, framed around the United States’ 250th anniversary, removes the studio layers and leaves the voice and guitar to do the work. What remains is urgent without being frantic—an open invitation rather than a lecture.

“To Unite,” co-written with longtime collaborator Steve Collins and originally released in 2024, moves from the same wellspring into a different register. The lyrics move through generations of “alibis” and “lies,” then turn toward release: “As these shackles fall to the ground / We become ascension bound… It is now time to unite.” The chorus gathers peace, love, children running free, and a rebirth tied to the earth itself. It has served as a theme for unity-minded efforts and appeared in a 432 Hz music video featuring additional voices. The live acoustic single, out September 29, 2026 (just over four and a half minutes, again via Sound Alive Records), captures the song the way Rosati has performed it in intimate settings—including acoustic sets from an Airstream—where the harmonies of the full arrangement give way to a single thread of melody and conviction.

Heard back to back, the two live versions form a quiet sequence: first the demand to see clearly, then the choice to stand together once the seeing is done. There is no stadium reverb, no stacked production to hide behind. The imperfections of a live take become part of the point—breath, string noise, the slight catch in a phrase—reminding the listener that these ideas are carried by a person, not a committee.

Rosati’s larger catalog (including the album *Candelabra Light*, the single “Lifting Veils,” and more recent releases such as “Hug”) has long circled themes of awakening and empathy. These acoustic editions simply turn the volume down so the words can travel farther. In an era of endless remixes, the boldest move is sometimes to play the song as if the room is small and the stakes are not.

Stream “Freedom Now (Live)” and “To Unite (Live)” wherever you listen. Then, if the room feels right, play them again with the lights low. Some songs are built to fill arenas. These two are built to fill the space between people.
